During this process, when you meet people , talk to people, or write letters and emails…. You are a PRODUCER… you are NOT a filmmaker, not a director, not an actor, not anything else. YOU … are a PRODUCER. You are producing a feature film. YOU, ARE, A, PRODUCER. …..Produce….. Put it on a business card and letter head…. BOB – PRODUCER.

Repeat after me; Hi, I’m ________. I’m a Producer.

If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck and walks like a duck.. it is a duck right? you’ve heard this before… If you look like a Producer, Sound like a Producer, and walk like a Producer… your a Producer… right? YES.

Set up a crowd funding program – I wrote an extensive post here on State 32 about crowd funding – there are some ideas there on crowd funding.

Ask friends if they know any rich people. Find a name, get a number, make the damn call. What’s the worst that could happen.. They don’t return it….so ask the question and make the call.

Do an Internet search, find the proverbial yellow pages… Ask on internet sites…Find the biggest ads ( they cost the most) and start there! Again, find a name, get a number, make the damn call. What’s the worst that could happen.. They don’t return it…. MAKE THE CALL. (DO NOT send a email… Make a call, call their secretary, make an appointment. Ask for a return call, write a letter asking for a meeting.

Look on Google for ‘Investment clubs”and investor groups – Do your homework and find out which ones are real and which ones are bullshit. THEN ATTEND THEIR MEETINGS. DO NOT mention your project for the first few meetings.. Your goal is to make friends first…. Just listen and get known. When you feel the time is right to talk… mention your project to the group or one-on-one. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE FOLOWING QUESTIONS NAILED and great answers locked down. Practice the answers with your friends and family. Each answer must be short and to the point

Tell me about your project… Why is it going to work? What have you done like this before? Tell me about yourself. How will the money be spent? How long before I recoup my initial investment? What is the expected / projected ROI? How long will it take to make money? What is the chance of success / failure? What makes your project something I should invest in over my other investment options?

Have a nice 2 or 3 page plan in your pocket that you can give to them that has the info about the project and all the financial data…

Think of it like this – Many people make 3% to 8 % in the market today. You need to convince the investor that they can make more, with a REASONABLE risk.. Do NOT lie or make any false statement. Be honest and truthful.

Another thing to remember when you talk to these high net worth people is that they might like to dabble in the “glamorous” film business. Tell them about the fun, the red carpets and the fun of having an Executive producer business card to flash around. Appeal to their ego. Maybe they have a daughter , cousin, grand son that want to be in a movie.. Find out what they like to do and their interests… Write a few treatments that appeal to the investors… If you get one. Then you can write that script and make that movie!

But you have NOTHING to lose by asking.. So MAKE THAT CALL! You have to start somewhere.

Never give up, never surrender….
